Intro to the course:

This  course is designed for those who have at least one year's experience in the hairdressing industry.. It will expand your current skills, you will develop advanced creative skill and be able to deliver current technical services  needed for a successful career in the industry. Successful completion can offer progression to an HNC Hairdressing course.

Who is the course for?

Apprentices employed in the hairdressing industry

What will I study?

You'll learn current industry hairdressing skills . The course covers:

  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques, 
  • Creatively colour hair using advanced techniques
  • Colour correction services
  • Creatively set and dressing advanced techniques
  • Consult, plan and assess

Optional units include:

  • Provide hair smoothing treatments 
  • Artistic design in hair cutting and styling
  • Artistic design in colouring

Next step course options

Trainees may progress to HNC Hairdressing.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments will be carried out under observation. Essential knowledge assessments will be carried out using SQA solar

Why should I choose this course?

Apprentices will advance their skills within realistic working environments. Completion will allow them to progress as a stylist within this creative industry

What are the entry requirements?

  • Places are open to 16-24 year olds only 
  • Potential candidates must be in full-time employment 
  • Highly motivated and have creative and artistic skills 
  • Candidates must reach the eligibility criteria required to qualify for funding 
  • Successful performance at interview

What are the interview arrangements?

Employers and apprentices should contact the college alternative funding department or the Hairdressing curriculum manager.

Other information:

Pracrical skills and essential knowledge will be delivered within purpose built salons by lecturing staff with current industry experience.
