Next step course options

Successful completion of this course will give you opportunities to undertake other qualifications in mathematics or related areas, eg Higher Mathematics, Skills for Work courses, National Progression Awards, National Certificate Group Awards, further study, employment or training.

Achievement may also support university applications for Degree level courses.

How will I be assessed?

This is an external examination set by SQA

Why should I choose this course?

Using mathematics enables us to model real-life situations and make connections and informed predictions. It equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information, simplify and solve problems, assess risk and make informed decisions.

The course aims to:

  • motivate and challenge you by enabling you to select and apply mathematical techniques in a variety of mathematical and real-life situations
  • develop confidence in the subject and a positive attitude towards further study in mathematics
  • develop skills in manipulation of abstract terms to generalise and to solve problems
  • allow you to interpret, communicate and manage information in mathematical form: skills which are vital to scientific and technological research and development
  • develop your skills in using mathematical language and in exploring mathematical ideas
  • develop skills relevant to learning, life and work in an engaging and enjoyable way

Where can this course lead?

Attainment will support your application for a range of employment opportunities.

What are the entry requirements?

You should have achieved National 4 Mathematics or equivalent.

Relevant work experience may support your application, and an offer of a place will be dependent on a short skills assessment

What are the interview arrangements?
