The aims of the Professional Development Award are to develop your advanced knowledge, understanding and skills in bricklaying. An example of some of the units are:

  • Arch construction.
  • Architectural and feature work.
  • Curved walls on plan and elevation.
  • Technical communications skills.
  • Setting out and establishing levels.

Who is the course for?

The Advanced Craft Bricklaying PDA 7 is suitable for:

  • Apprentices - 3rd year onwards.
  • Experienced individuals in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects.
  • Candidates who wish to start their own business.

What will I study?

  • You'll learn the practical skills and knowledge to help to support and develop and build on your existing skillset.
  • Development of advanced knowledge and skills in Bricklaying, developing professional effectiveness in construction craft industry. 
  • Application of candidate’s knowledge of new technologies and practices providing specialised bricklaying studies which are directly. relevant to the individual vocations which candidates are aspiring towards. 
  • Enabling candidates to make an immediate contribution in employment in the building industry. Underpinning practical Bricklaying experience in the workplace.
  • Providing increased articulation and opportunities for progression to HNC Construction.

On-going written and practical assessments.

This course leads to jobs such as: 

  • Site management, trainee or assistant route.
  • Self-employment.
  • Supervisory or charge-hand roles.

What are the entry requirements?

This award was developed for candidates to advance their craft skills and give increased flexibility and options for those who wish to progress into supervision, management or technician areas roles. 

It is expected that candidates who are working through their Modern Apprenticeship would undertake this course alongside experienced workers out-with the Modern Apprenticeship. This would allow employers and candidates to take advantage of increased hand skills and/or progression opportunities.

  • Progression from Modern Apprenticeship - continuing.
  • Modern Apprentice - returning.
  • Relevant industry experience - acceptance will be dependent on interview.

What are the interview arrangements?

Offers made will be based on your application.  Those who do not meet the minimum entry requirements will be invited for an individual interview.

Fees for full time is £1016

This course is eligible for SAAS.
