SVQ LEVEL 2 HAIRDRESSING

Intro to the course:

This introductory course is designed for those looking to start their career in in the hairdressing industry. It will allow possible progression to a SVQ level 3 Hairdressing course. It will introduce you to a range of hairdressing techniques and skills needed for a career in the industry.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career in hairdressing. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll develop practical skills, and gain essential knowledge and valuable salon experience. 

The course covers 

• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Set, style and dress hair
• Cut and clipper hair using hairdressing techniques
• Consult, assess, plan and prepare for hair services 
• Dry, style and finish hair 
• Instruct and advise on products and services 

 Realistic working environments will be a part of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments under observation on live clients and a portfolio of evidence. Open and closed book Solar assessments.

This course will give you the skills and knowledge to start your career in hairdressing. You'll be taught in our purpose-built hairdressing salon by industry-experienced staff. You'll get the chance to work in our commercial training salon and to experience realistic working environments. You will gain an insight into the wider industry through our partnerships with companies  such as Wella, Hair and Beauty, and Capital Hair and Beauty. This course will provide you with the opportunity to  progress into higher-level study.

Where can this course lead?

This course can lead to work as a junior stylist in a salon.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

• Minimum of two National awards or Standard Grades at general level or above or NPA Cosmetology 
• SVQ Level 1 Hairdressing qualification
• Age 16 at the beginning of the programme 
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with the general public 
• Highly motivated and having creative and artistic skills 
• Acceptance will require successful interview

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview on campus with lecturing team.

Fees for full time is £1008

This course is eligible for Bursary.

This course  will also develop your Core skills and Meta skills, providing you with the necessary social skills to successfully move into employment

Full time course: F1/AA This course will run 16 hours per week for 36 weeks. F1/JA will run for 16 hours per week for 22 weeks
