Intro to the course:

The Beginner ESOL course is for students with little or no English language skills. 

Through listening, speaking, reading, and writing, you will gain language experience in useful topics that will help you with basic communication in English. You will improve skills in reading and writing, whilst developing vocabulary and basic grammar structures to enable you to write sentences and short paragraphs. 

You will practise everyday conversation using key words, basic phrases and expressions to enable you to perform tasks in English, for example making a dental appointment, travelling by train and completing an application form with personal details. 

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the spoken and written language tools and confidence needed to continue your ESOL learning journey.

Who is the course for?

The course is for absolute beginners at the start of your English language learning journey who want to live an independent life in Scotland. 

What will I study?

We follow the SQA National 2 ESOL Literacies framework which provides topics useful in everyday life, for example travel, health and shopping.

There are a range of assessments over three levels that students can access for certification. 

Why should I choose this course?

You will learn speaking, listening and writing skills. This is a beginner course for those with very little English.

What are the entry requirements?

None 

Please note that course entry is subject to interview. 

What are the interview arrangements?

There will be an initial assessment and discussion to gather information about current skills in English.  This will ensure that you are placed at the correct level.
