Throughout the winter months College staff have been out and about visiting school careers events, they have been speaking to pupils, teachers, parents and carers about courses on offer at the College, and have been helping potential students find their positive destination.
Construction Management Lecturer Neil, is one of the team visiting local schools, and we followed him on his journey
Neil attended numerous school career events between December and March, he took his marketing equipment to schools including Duncanrig Secondary School; St Andrews and St Brides High School; Taylor High School; Barrhead High School; and Williamwood High School.
Attendance and engagement at the events were high, pupils visiting the South Lanarkshire College stands ranged from S2 - S6, giving a footfall averaging around two or three hundred.
Neil said "It was really beneficial to get the one-to-one opportunity to speak to young people about the college route to higher education and employment. Many pupils, parents, carers, and even teachers, are unaware of the benefits of college courses, and the routes their young people can take from a college course to university or employment".
Neil continued, "On a personal note, I have really enjoyed helping to guide young people make decisions on their options and, it is great to get an insight into the types of courses they are looking for and advise on the best route for them. It also assists with the College curriculum development, as there are several courses mentioned that at present are not delivered. but are now being investigated as potential future courses".
If your school or organisation is hosting an open event and would like a South Lanarkshire College representative to attend, you can email schools.liaison@slc.ac.uk or marketing@slc.ac.uk and a member of our recruitment team will come along.
