SVQ LEVEL 3 BARBERING

Intro to the course:

This fast track course will be delivered over 24 weeks. You will learn creative barbering skills in a realistic environment through workshops and practical sessions. Creatively cut hair using barbering techniques, provide shaving services, design and create facial hair shapes using advanced techniques, consult, assess and plan for barbering services, creatively colour and lighten the hair using advanced techniques. Work placement is undertaken during the course.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone who is in employment in the industry and wants to achieve a formal qualification or those who have completed a barbering course at SVQ level 2 or SCQF level 5. This course will advance your skills to help you secure employment within this highly creative industry.

What will I study?

You'll learn how to creatively cut Hair using a combination of barbering techniques:

• Design and create facial hair shapes using advanced techniques
• Provide shaving services using a straight razor
• Consult, Assess, Plan and Prepare for Hair, Barbering
• Combine barbering, cutting and clipper techniques to create a bespoke look 
• Implement and Maintain Safe, Hygienic and Effective Working Practices

There are optional units in: 

• Design and create hair designs and shapes in the hair using advanced clipper and razor techniques
• Develop, enhance and evaluate your creative barbering skills
• Plan, implement and evaluate promotional activities
• Work placement

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments and a portfolio evidence. SQA online (SOLAR) assessments, work experience.

One or more of the following: 

• SVQ level 2 qualification 
• excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the general public 
• highly motivated and have creative and artistic skills 
• skills test at interview 
• acceptance will require successful interview

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview by lecturing team, qualification, reference, skills test.

Other information:

You will be required to secure a work placement within a barbering salon during this course.
