Why should I study hairdressing and barbering?

You will develop your skills and techniques working with real clients in professional salon environments. Hairdressers and barbers can earn salaries of upwards of £30,000 per year depending on experience and location, with many previous students going on to open their own salons.

There are currently 11,000 hairdressers employed in Scotland with 36% working as self employed, meaning you can work the hours to suit your lifestyle and other commitments. 

What jobs can I get in this area?

You can get jobs such hairstylist in a salon, barber, salon supervisor/manager, trainer, manufacturing technician, sales representative or a business owner.

How are the courses taught?

You’ll learn through realistic working environments, workshops, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

You will be taught in our purpose-built hairdressing salons by experienced staff from the hairdressing industry. You’ll get the chance to train in our commercial training salon and to gain work experience with our partner hairdressers.
