Intro to the course:

As in the Level 2 Award, the Level 2 Certificate covers a wide but broader range of skills, knowledge and understanding.   

Both the Award and Certificate include units that focus on:

  • Communication, with units that cover getting your message across and how to brief a team
  • Working with people, including helping your team improve
  • Providing direction and leadership, such as how to self-manage and develop as a team leader
  • Essential competencies and getting results, from problem-solving to planning and monitoring workloads

This qualification is ideal for practicing team leaders, helping you become more effective in your role.  They will also support new or aspiring team leaders - helping you make the transition from working in a team to leading a team.

Who is the course for?

The ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills has been designed to help you boost your performance as a team member and help you make the transition from working in a team to leading a team. If you are a practising team leader, they will help you be more effective and confident in your role.  

What will I study?

You will: 

  • gain a range of key team management skills and put them into practice in your own role 
  • build your  team leadership capabilities – motivate and engage teams, manage relationships confidently 
  • develop your team leadership skills using your own knowledge, values and motivations.

Units covered may include a combination of the following:

  • Leading your work team
  • Developing the work team
  • Understanding effective team working
  • Improving performance of the work team
  • Managing yourself
  • Understanding conflict management
  • Solving problems and making decisions
  • Planning and monitoring work
  • Giving briefings and making presentations
  • Induction and coaching in the workplace.

Next step course options

Successful learners will be able to progress to the ILM Level 3 Award or Certificate in Leadership and Management.

Assessments include research tasks and written reports throughout the course.
