71% of UK legal employers are planning to recruit staff over the next twelve months so there are plenty of opportunities ahead. This course builds on the HNC, and prepares students for a career in the well paid and rewarding legal and criminology sectors. The course leads directly to degree level study at our partner universities.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop their career in law and legal services. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll learn about conveyancing, legal services, accounting and tax for executries as well as gaining practical skills such drafting and legal research.  The course is endorsed by the Law Society of Scotland and the Scottish Paralegal Association. You'll visit courts and have a variety of guest speakers from different legal backgrounds.

You can progress to LLB Bachelor of Laws at Year 1 at a range of universities of the BA in Law at advanced entry (3rd year)

Why should I choose this course?

This course will set you on the path to a career in law, legal services and criminology. With an average salary of £42,000 across the UK for newly qualified lawyers and ample job opportunities. This course will teach you the fundamentals in order to progress to higher-level study or into an entry-level position. Our previous students have progressed on to second year and some third year of degree programmes at university, with many eventually finding employment within legal services. You'll be taught by our experienced staff and get the chance of visits to the Crown Office, local law firms and other organisations, and a variety of guest speakers. This course is one of our most popular, so we encourage you to apply early.

Where can this course lead?

There are opportunities in administrative, supervisory and management roles in business and finance in the commercial or public sectors and the Police Service. The conveyancing, debt recovery, and executory choices within the HNC specifically meet the needs of paralegals.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • at least one Higher in English or equivalent such as History or Modern Studies
  • an appropriate grouping of National Units 
  • equivalent recognised qualification 
  • relevant work experience 

What are the interview arrangements?

No formal interview arrangements however you will be invited to an informal information and enrolment session.
