Intro to the course:

This course will introduce you to the exciting world of hospitality and events preparing you for further study or an entry-level position in the industry. With a strong focus on developing your practical skills for work within hotels, bars, restaurants, and event organisations.  You'll work in teams and front facing with the public, therefore there is a strong focus on customer care. 

We would welcome applicants whose first language is not English.

You will study a range of subjects significant to the world of hospitality and events including: 

  • food & beverage operations
  • non-alcoholic beverages & barista skills
  • digital culture: using social software
  • event organisation
  • working in the hospitality industry

How will I be assessed?

A wide mix of assessment approaches are used including presentations, practical work, multiple-choice tests, short report writing, and practical observations within The Study training restaurant. 

On successful competition you will achieve a National Certificate Hospitality Operations at SCQF Level 5.

This is an excellent time to enter the hospitality sector as there are likely to be many opportunities ahead. This course will prepare you for an entry-level job within the sector, or further study. You'll get practical experience serving customers in our on-site commercial restaurant, The Study.

Lecturers have worked for Walt Disney World, Intercontinental Hotels, Malmaison, Hilton, and more amazing establishments across the world. You’ll be trained and driven to your full potential.

Where can this course lead?

The hospitality industry is projected to continue to grow by 4% over the next ten years, which will mean a continued increase in job opportunities. This introductory course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge for various roles such as restaurant supervisor, barista, bartender, customer service, banqueting & events assistant and front desk. You’ll be encouraged to work part time alongside your studies and on completion can earn upwards of £24k in a fast progressive worldwide career.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • Two National 5 qualifications or above.
  • Skills for Work National 5 Hospitality 
  • equivalent recognised qualification 
  • for adult returners work experience is acceptable 
  • if English is not your first language, an interview to support your application may be beneficial

What are the interview arrangements?

Offers made will be based on your application.  Those who do not meet the minimum entry requirements will be invited for an individual interview. 

Fees, finance and funding

Fees for full time is £1008

This course is eligible for Bursary.
